About Starboard Cottage

This former Coastguard’s Cottage is located in the upper part of the village at Runswick Bay, a short walk to the beach and seconds away from the local pub.

Lovingly renovated to offer a high standard of contemporary accommodation whilst maintaining many original features the cottage makes the perfect base for families or friends to enjoy the area before returning to enjoy the excellent facilities the cottage offers.

The accommodation features an open plan kitchen/lounge area, bright and highly equipped, with solid oak island and breakfast bar. The comfortable seating, log burner and large Smart TV make a perfect area to sit and relax after a busy day exploring. The dining area features patio doors leading directly to the the large secure garden featuring seating, a gas BBQ and pizza oven,13ft ‘springfree’ trampoline, a perfect place to let the kids (or adults) run off some energy. There is also a downstairs shower room, accessible from the patio, ideal for washing those sandy toes after returning from the beach.

The cottage comfortably sleeps 6 people between 3 bedrooms. The main bedroom features a king size bed (which can be split into two singles), wardrobe and storage whilst the second bedroom offers a standard double bed. The third bedroom boasts two single beds, comfortably accommodating two people.

The newly refurbished upstairs family bathroom features a large roll-top bath, separate walk in shower, large washbasin and toilet

The cottage offers free Wi-fi.

Had the most wonderful weekend stay at Starboard Cottage. A fabulous guest hamper on arrival with an abundance of goodies for the weekend. The house is wonderful with ample space. Jane was an incredible host with quick and attentive communication. The pub is a couple of doors away which served well for Sunday lunch. The downstairs shower proved very handy for an adventurous dog and child. All in all an incredible stay, would definitely return. Jan 24

Jane proved to be a fantastic host! She has created a beautiful home from home, with stylish and thoughtful decor, excellent amenities and quality furnishings, and even a thoughtful finishing touch of a welcome basket. The garden is such a plus, and our daughter loved the trampoline! A short walk to Runswick beach for fossil hunting and Staithes, Whitby and Saltburn are all so close by. Loved our weekend away with my husband and 3 girls. Loved the location. Recommend walking along top bank and through the little alleyways of the village. So pretty. The bay was amazing – so many fossils! We went to the local pub which is super handy. Then Magpie Cafe in Whitby and the Cod and Lobster in Staithes. Jane’s house was so well appointed. Everything you need, kids loved the trampoline, super clear instructions and very responsive. Thank you so much! 🙂 Oct 2023

We had the most fabulous stay at Jane’s cottage. It was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated with fantastic attention to detail. The garden is spectacular. Our Cavapoo loved running up and down, and the bonus of a trampoline brought me back 15 years! Location was great, perfect for Runswick Bay beach, a pub, cafe and only 15 minutes in the car to Whitby! Jane was very helpful and so quick to respond. Sept 2023

The house is beautiful and garden with trampoline and football & basketball net was a huge hit with our children. Starboard Cottage is a well equipped home-from-home with lovely decor, linen, crockery and furnishings. The trampoline and football goal in the back garden were a great success with my granddaughter. The cottage is a short walking distance from the beautiful beach at Runswick Bay and the location is within easy driving (or bus-trip) distance of Sandsend, Whitby and Saltburn. I would highly recommend it. July 2023

We had a brief but fantastic stay in Janes property. We found it scrupulously clean, very ‘themed’ for the location and extremely comfortable. It truly felt like home. This was ‘back to my roots’ and the beauty of the area had faded over time, we certainly won’t leave it so long to return and Starboard Cottage will be our first choice. No hesitation in recommending this property and if you go to the local pub (50 yards away) try the corned beef pie! Scrummy. July 2023

We have enjoyed an amazing weekend at the Starboard cottage. The house was more spacious than we anticipated and beautifully decorated. Lots of thought has been put into homely extras which made our stay very enjoyable and the large garden kept both grandparents and toddlers happy! We had a wonderful stay at Jane’s cottage. It is beautifully decorated, very homely and very well equipped. The hammock and trampoline in the large securely fenced garden were a huge bonus. It’s a great location, easily walkable to the beautiful beach at Runswick Bay and an easy drive to Staithes, Sandsend and Whitby. Jane was very helpful and easy to communicate with. Just spent a fabulous 5 days at Jane’s cottage. Wow, it’s beautiful – everything you could wish for and more! Super comfy beds, a cosy lounge, huge bathroom. The kids loved the outdoor space, and spent hours on the trampoline. Very peaceful location, in short driving distance to local shops. Perfect location for visiting the very pretty Staithes, Saltburn and Whitby. Would highly recommend. Thank you Jane for letting us stay in your wonderful cottage. April 2023
